Our hospital introduced the millenium's innovative method of treating excessive uterine bleeding by non-surgical method.Patients of dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) are treated with hormones, D&C and hystrectomies. Introduction of hysteroscope has added a new dimension to visualisation of the uterine cavity and trans cervical resection of endometrium (TCRE) often leaves streaks of endometrium behind in the uterine cavity.  The thermal balloon therapy is intended for the treatment of menrrhagia (excessive uterine bleeding) due to benign causes in premenopausal women for whom childbearing is complete. The procedure works by thermally destroying the endometrial lining of the uterus.

We have already done Thermal Balloon Therapy in a number of cases in our hospital, with 90 % successful stoppage of bleeding. These patients were either very obese or had severe uncontrolled hypertension with diabetes mellitus or had Ischemic heart disease. One of our patients was on anticoagulants as she had prosthetic valve in her heart and who was refused surgery because of cardiac risk factors.

We combine TCRE with Thermal Balloon Therapy for superior results in patients with heavy uterine bleeding (Menorrhagia).

  
     
 
Steps in Thermal Balloon Therapy
Stage 1 :
Thermal balloon being inserted into the uterus to start the therapy.
Stage 2 :
Balloon is inflated with sterile fluid and pressure maintained so that the soft balloon nearly takes the shape of the uterus.
Stage 3 :
The uterine endometrium is thermally destroyed giving the patient relief from menorrhagia.
