After one year of unprotected intercourse (having sex without condoms etc) if one does not conceive, it is advisable to take Specialist/Expert opinion to find out the reasons for the delay in conceiving. If the woman is more than 35 years of age, she should get Specialist opinion after 6 months.
Even natural fertility results in pregnancy just 25% of the time in any given month. Studies indicate that the possibility of conception using IUI is highest in the first three to four months. If not pregnant after 3-4 artificial insemination attempts, we will usually recommend more aggressive treatment, such as having patients move from oral to injectable fertility medications, or move to IVF.
We recommend you take one months break between fresh IVF cycles to allow the ovaries resume to normal before being re-stimulated. If you do have frozen embryos remaining from your fresh cycle however, you can choose to proceed with a frozen embryo transfer cycle without a break.
When you become a patient at Jilla Hospital, we will begin a very thorough evaluation of your individual condition, and take the steps necessary to understand your medical history and other possible conditions that may be affecting your ability to become pregnant. Your visit with us will not simply involve the physician, but also our team of highly skilled nurses and support staff. You should plan on your first appointment to take at least two full hours in the office.
At your first visit, one of the most important elements in determining the correct course of care is to completely understand your general medical history and the efforts you have taken to become pregnant thus far. Your physician nurse will ask you questions to understand any medical conditions you may have. Your physician will spend ample time with you to discuss your history and the steps you have taken to attempt pregnancy. Your physician will also perform a physical examination of the female anatomy, while updating your Pap & Culture (if necessary). Following the physical examination, you will likely move to a consultation room where you can comfortably discuss a treatment plan with your physician and the nurse.
